Microsclerotherapy – sclerotherapy

Painful, heavy legs? Visible changes and thickening veins? Cases of varicose veins in the family? Unfortunately, it is very possible that you are in a risk group. Lower extremity varicose veins are the most common disease among humans, and approx. 70% of the patients confirm their hereditary nature. They are not only an element that deteriorates the aesthetics of the appearance of the lower limbs, but they also have a negative influence on the quality of life and can lead to serious complications. Today, we have several options for treating varicose veins. One of them, besides laser or classical surgery, is sclerotherapy (microsclerotherapy).

How it’s done

Microsclerotherapy is an excellent technique used for the removal of varicose veins and surface and spider veins. It involves injections of a sclerosing drug which irritates the lining of the veins causing the walls to stick together. Thanks to very thin needles, the injections are almost painless. Blood stops flowing through the veins, which are then absorbed by the body over a period of a few weeks. It is a safe and effective treatment that is increasingly popular and used to treat thousands of patients worldwide.
Women who are intent on maintaining beautiful legs undergo the procedure periodically, thus avoiding the formation of large areas of unaesthetic varicose veins.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and lasts 20-30 minutes. After that, the patient returns to daily activities. Sometimes, your doctor will instruct you to wear a flexible band. Achieving good results often requires several procedures, as well as the use of anticoagulants, an active lifestyle, careful use of sunbathing, attention to normal weight and avoidance of long standing or sitting positions.

An important element preceding sclerotherapy is the Doppler ultrasonography performed to evaluate the valvular function of the veins.
